Special Effects

Special Effects to some are astounding and exciting as well. Over the years special effects have changed along with the times. At one time when strings were used to hold space ships up, now those strings are replaced with animatronics and computer animation. Movies are becoming so realistic now its hard to tell what's fake and what's not. Special effects cover a wide variety of things from pyrotechnics to green screens.

Pyrotechnics are composed of explosions in movies. Using electrical charges and gun powder, or however large the explosion needs to be, they create an awesome effect. Green screens are used to compose two separate images together such as a computer animation character and an actor posing like animated character is there. The actor will stand in front of a green screen. Why green? Bright green isn't seen much in clothing or surroundings. So it is taken out easiest. Editors go in digitally and change the green to be transparent. This way no other colors are taken out of the actors clothing, since green isn't that common of a color worn. Animatronics use puppets and puppeteers. The puppeteers use remote controls like one with a remote control car to drive motors in the character. In this way they can move eyes, wag tails, or even turn the characters head. There are so many techniques that directors use to create special effects. As things change, so will movies they will become bigger and better, and who knows what they will think of next.
