Saddleback Tortoise

HABITAT:
Found on the Galapagos island, off the coast of South America.
DESCRIPTION:
A very large animal which may reach a length of 122 cm. and weight of 227 kg.
on the larger islands. The populations may be divided roughly into two groups.
Those from the smaller, drier islands tend to be smaller and have "SaddleBack"
carapaces above the neck allowing the tortoises to reach up on the taller vegetation
and longer, thinner limbs. Those from the larger, wetter islands are larger
with dome-shaped shells.
THREATS:
Hunted originally for food by sailors, now it's suffering loss of habitat due to agriculture.
