Tamarin

HABITAT:
Found in the tropical forests of Brazil.
DESCRIPTION:
Long-tailed monkeys that differ from other monkeys in having two instead of
three molar teeth and having long, curved claws on all the toes except for the
great toe. They also have non-opposable thumbs like all other monkeys. The animals
all have soft, silky fur and are gentle in disposition. They are tree-dwelling
mammals and feed on fruits and insects.
THREATS:
Loss of habitat and low numbers due to capture for zoo specimens.
