HABITAT:

Coastal areas around the Mediterranean (Europe).

DESCRIPTION:

They are distinguished by a spur in the thigh region on each side (hints the name). Their carapace is moderately domed. The adult measures around .25 to .30 m., while the weight can be over 4 kg. They have a very long life, over 100 years, is documented for this tortoise.

THREATS:

Mainly humans because the tortoise is being collected as pets.
