Wolverine
HABITAT:
Once found throughout Canada, they now inhabit the tundra areas where there
are still large herds of ungulates.
DESCRIPTION:
Resembles a small bear with a bushy tail. It has long, thick, dark brown, fur
on the head. Two yellowish stripes start at the shoulders and meet at the rump.
It's an aggressive carnivore equipped with a muscular body, powerful claws,
a large head with strong jaws and teeth, and black piercing eyes. An adult male
measures about 1 m from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail, and weighs
between 15 and 25 kg. The female is smaller than the male.
THREATS:
Intensive hunting of ungulates, the principal food of wolverines. Being hunted and trapped for their fur. Many have died from the practice of laying poison for wolves.
