Welcome
to our World War 2 website. I hope you enjoy what we have
put together for you, the menu is to your left. Below this
is a brief article on what started the war. You can also find
a text based menu system on the bottem of every page.
In
the Beginning
At
the end of World War I, the allies formed the League of Nations.
The United States didn't join due to the lack of a centralized
army, saying there was no way for the League to enforce the
treaty and keep the peace. In 1931, Japan set off a bomb under
a section of the South Manchuria Railroad, they were also
making plans to invade and conquer Manchuria. The league demanded
that Japan stop, so they withdrew from the league. The league
took no further action with Japan.
In
1933, Hitler became the chancellor of Germany. He Ignored
the Treaty of Versailles, and in 1935, he reinstated the German
military. Mussolini also came to power in 1935. The league
did nothing to stop them. Britain and France could have crushed
Germany, but vowed to keep the peace. Hitler increased his
demands until September 1st, 1939, when he invaded Poland.
Two days later, Britain and France declared war on Germany.
This marked the start of World War 2.
